What about choosing colour schemes for display?
Maybe 5 different colour schemes to choose from? eg: 1 for girls, 1 for boys, one for IT guys, etc.

Im not sure why you hate Excel with a passion but a huge percentage of the popoulation of the world uses Excel.
Something to consider.
You as a programmer may hate it but rest of us mortals live by Excel rather than CSV or ODS
Think about it.
